Move to the back of the bus

Anyone who has every stepped foot onto a bus has heard this phrase: "Move to the back of the bus." In fact, I hear it so often that I consider it Translink's slogan. No, it isn't "moving people" or "connecting people" or anything generic like that. It's "get your ass back there." Yes, all the way to the back such that your cheek smears the back window.
Some bus drivers have been fed up with simply telling people to go to the back of the bus. So, they have become creative. Yes, they have that button, which they push to have a pre-recorded voice tell you to go to the back of the bus. But, I have also heard phrases such as:

  • There is free coffee at the back of the bus (during mornings)
  • First one to the back gets an A+ (here the bus driver was considering the fact that the bus was full of students)
  • Don't go come on the bus if you don't move to the back.
  • Here, take these Twinkies, and eat them while moving to the back of the bus. (The Twinkies were unopened and they appeared to have been a gift to the driver OR they were his breakfast)
Admittedly, all the above sayings to get people to move to the back of the bus were lame. Usually, people would heed the instructions and move.  Tonight was more exciting. You see, a man was standing in front of the bus but behind the red line. The bus driver asked him to move to the back of the bus, but he refused. He insisted that he was behind the red line and was not violating any rules. He,  however, packed on some extra Lb's and was preventing the people who were getting on the bus from moving to the back. The man still refused to move so the driver shut of the engine and an argument ensued. Two minutes passed and finally some one gave up their seat (which was the seat closest to the front of the bus) for the man. The man sat down and the bus started moving again. But not without the man talking, in dudgeon, about how bad a bus driver the driver was. He finally shut up when everyone stared at him and told him that they were hungry and tired and wanted to go home.
